Windows on a Mac: Finally
It is my strong opinion that most real estate professionals would really benefit from using a Mac as their main computer. By benefit, I mean that you would get more done in less time with less effort. Time is your leverage to money, so having more of it can mean a lot to your bottom line.
I recommend Macs everywhere I go and to almost every real estate business owner that I meet mainly because they just work better. They are simpler, more intuitive and most of the time “just work.” Plus, there are no real viruses and no spyware to clog your machine and make it run slower than molasses in winter.
For real estate professionals though, the real problem has been that many of the popular software packages out there (Top Producer, Active Agent, ACT!, etc.) aren’t available for the Mac.
That used to be a problem.
Just last week, Apple released a new type of software for their latest Macs called Boot Camp. Boot Camp allows you to “dual-boot” (which means you decide whether you want to use Windows or the Mac OS when starting up) any new Mac.
If you bought a Mac in the last 3 months, this will probably work for you. If you have an older Mac, you are gonna have to wait until you upgrade and get a new one.
So basically, what Boot Camp gives you is two computers for the price of one. You can choose to run Windows or the Mac OS. You need a new Mac, a full copy of Windows XP and a bit of time to set it all up.
You will still need to use antivirus and spyware software when you are using Windows, but the whole point here is that you would use the Mac OS for most of your work and then reboot and use Windows only when you need to.
I admit, having to reboot your computer is a pain, but coming from the Windows world, you are probably already used to that. :)
Take a look at Boot Camp and give some thought to making a switch to the Mac. You can also read Walter Mossberg’s Wall Street Journal review here. Switching to a Mac could be a very profitable decision for you and your real estate business.
