Looking for a Better Lead Generating Website? Don't Bother.
I consult with a lot of clients who come to me with this question about real estate websites:
“Can you recommend a better real estate website provider than the one I have? My current one just isn’t generating the number of leads I want.”
My answer to this question is always a question of my own, “Who’s responsible for generating the leads – your website or you?”
Websites collect leads, they don’t generate them. Your marketing is what generates the leads. If your marketing stinks, you don’t get any leads. If it is good… then you get leads.
Simple equation.
Most of the real estate website providers out there are roughly the same. Some have more bells and whistles than others or make things simpler or easier, but in the end, their purpose is all the same:
To deliver your message to the marketplace.
Of course they all argue that they have the best solution on the market. That’s their business to make that argument. Believe it if you want.
That’s not my experience.
Think about the diet industry. There is no perfect diet – no diet that always works for everyone. If there was a perfect diet, everyone who wanted to lose weight would be on it. It would be the only diet out there.
Same with real estate websites.
You’ll always find at least one wildly successful real estate professional included on every website provider’s client list.
But there is no perfect solution. Because technology is never the complete solution for a business problem. It is only a tool.
The success of your real estate website depends on how well you’ve thought through your marketing and how you position yourself in the marketplace.
Techniques to do that have been around for decades.
Don’t let technology fog your vision. Stick with the basics and then use technology to help you bring your message to the market.
So is it a stupid question to ask for a recommendation for a web provider that will generate more, high-quality leads?
It’s not that it’s a stupid question, it’s just not the right question.
