Craigslist's free NYC listings coming to a close.
Beginning March 1, the popular website Craigslist will start charging $10.00 for brokers in NYC to list their properties.
If you aren’t familiar with Craigslist, it’s a very popular website created by Craig Newmark where people can find anything from their home to a new sofa.
The site has grown from a small email list to the huge community it is today. And that’s part of the problem.
With the frenzy of the NYC real estate market, many posters are resubmitting their listings to Craigslist many, many times per day. When you submit a post to Craigslist, they ask you not to do this, but…
The folks at Craiglist mention that they are not considering fees in any other cities as NYC is pretty much an isolated case. I know, I lived there… The competition is so fierce that getting a place to live is like jumping into a tank of hungry piranhas. It was every man, woman and child for themselves.
At any rate, in order to cut down on the abuse that this amount of competition is causing, they decided that charging for listings might work.
The fee is pretty low, but hopefully it will be enough to make the abusers move on.
Craigslist is an excellent tool to use for marketing your business. Keeping it free from abuse is the best thing for everyone involved.
